DIY Coat Rack

I am busy, busy, busy this week as we (my Mama and I) have started our nearly total house redecorating project which includes (for now) the porch (entry way, mudroom, or whatever you like to call it), the kitchen, living room, AND the hallway!  It's going to be a long project, possibly taking a couple months to complete, but there are millions of little projects along the way! YIPPEE!!

As part of our porch/entry/Mudroom makeover we took down a pole that was holding our jackets and are replacing it with a coat rack, which we don't have, so....

A DIY PROJECT!!!

We took to Pinterest (as if I even needed to say so!) and found some awesome ideas!

Since we are on a budget, and we have never made a coat rack before,  we figured we would start with something simple. Lucky for us we found this beauty in the basement...just what we needed!

It was too long for the space we are putting it, which is above a cushioned bench with underneath storage for boots on the smallest wall, so we had a portion cut out of the centre and are joining it back together to make it fit.

We got off to a great start today, tearing down the pole and the ugly shelves above it, and painted the first coat on the walls. Tomorrow we are planning to finish painting and get the coat rack up!

There's still a ton to do, such as paint the bench, cover the cushion in new fabric, add a couple pillows, and I am working on a welcome sign to hang above the coat rack! Lots of work to do, and lots of fun!  Stay tuned for updates!

Until next time....

Pinterest Find.....in my Basement?

Have you ever found something beautiful on Pinterest only to discover that you had an almost exact replica of it stashed away somewhere?

    It's awesome!!!

As I have mentioned before my children and I live in my childhood home with my parents. To make a long story short- we moved back after my bipolar diagnosis and after I was taken off work via my doctor and could no longer afford to stay in our apartment. But enough about that.....

Mom and I decided that, after having the same color scheme in the living room and adjoining kitchen for the past 5 years, it was time for a change!

Where do you go when your redecorating and need inspiration? PINTEREST of course!

I don't want to give away too much of our design plans just yet as I will be doing a whole post on our living room makeover in the near future. But I just have to share this pic.....

Pretty right? I thought so too! And as I looked at it closely the bottom two pieces really caught my eye!

HOLD UP! WAIT A MINUTE!!
I've seen that somewhere before!

Look what I had stashed away in the boxes of random junk in our basement...

Can you believe it?!?

I found these wall pieces a couple years ago for just $4.99 each at Rossy. They were an off white and I painted them a dark turquoise and then changed my mind once again and painted them red!

While I was rummaging through the basement I also found a can of left over paint in a perfect aqua blue and this is the end result....

Excuse the ugly background pretty please :) I am working on my kitchen table and had to place a flat board underneath it while painting.

So, what started as a Pinterest search ended in a nice little surprise and the first pieces of decor for our new living room design which I will share real soon!

Until next time.....

Driftwood Dreams

If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times....

I LOVE PINTEREST!

Whether I'm looking for DIY projects, crafting advice or decorating inspiration I always turn to Pinterest!

In a previous blog entry I mentioned how I had turned hundreds of tiny pieces of driftwood into refrigerator magnets....

I fell totally and madly in love with working with driftwood and collected some large pieces to make wall signs...

I found so many wonderful ideas for uses of driftwood since then and I can't wait for summer to collect more driftwood and do some of them!

Hope you enjoy these dreamy driftwood projects as much as I do :)

Goodwill Finds

There is nothing I love more than a good before and after, and I have created quite a few myself over the years. I love to hunt for makeover treasures at Goodwill and thrift stores, as well as yard sales during the Summer months. Yesterday my mother and I visited Goodwill and I found an awesome makeover project for just $8!! Check it out!!

I have no idea what I am going to do with it just yet. Maybe a kids toy box, or a boot box and bench. I haven't decided and before I do I will go to the holy grail of inspiration and ideas- Pinterest! I have the app on my phone and have filled it with great craft, decorating, and wood working projects. If you would like to follow me on Pinterest here is the link https://www.pinterest.com/glover0341/.

I also found these wooden candle sticks at Goodwill for just a buck, and again, I haven't decided what I am doing with them just yet and will turn to my trusted source of inspiration for all things great and small- Pinterest!

Until Next Time....
